Explaining the CommuteIQ Map

To access the Map, open the CommuteIQ report and navigate to the top right of your screen and press the pink 'View Map' Button

here you will see a visual presentation of employee postcodes dotted around an interactive map.

At the top of the Map view you will see the CommuteIQ title with some information of the data used to power your report and map.

Map Filters

Depending on what level of data you have used to generate the report, you can see different filterable options under 'Map Filters'. It will also show different shift times if collected in the dataset.

If you have used multiple shift times then you can filter in and out of those shift options to review the impact of start times on your staff's access to alternative commuting options.

Map Layers

In the bottom left you can interact with various different map layers. Here you can also switch between miles & kilometres.

  • Contacts (default) - overview of your workforce profile.

  • Active Travel - shows 2 polygons for both walking and cycling. Each polygon is roughly 30min journey lengths as infrastructure allows. Allows you to quickly identify geographical opportunity for active travel as well as overall workforce in each polygon.

  • Public Transport Duration - bands each postcode into 15 minute windows and colours each dot per band. Quickly identify those with good and poor journey lengths into work.

  • Public Transport Comparison - a simple split of whether the dot is inside or outside a 2x driving factor. If a drive alone journey is 20 minutes, then 40 minutes would be the longest journey time that would be included within a 2x driving factor. The vast majority of modal shift occurs within a 2x driving factor.

  • Service Operators - an overlay of transport providers to identify routes & providers who serve your workforce well and those that don't. Begin to form a business case using this data to affect service change if your staff have poor access to public transport.

  • Park and Ride - We have the ability to include Park & Ride if you request it to your Account Manager ahead of time.

  • Car Share Options - each dot will be coloured depending on how many potential car share options they have. Identify clusters of car sharing communities and encourage your workforce through targeted communications.

  • Private Transport Options - we can map private transport options you may already offer such as shuttle bus services. Please request this from your Account Manger ahead of time and they will request further information to enable the service to be mapped.
