This guide explains each part of the report.

Average Commute Distance - The average number of miles your employees live from their work location.

Drive Alone Emissions - Total emissions if everyone drives alone to their work location, assuming they commute an average of 3.5x a week.

Sustainable Options - Percentage of employees who have a viable alternative way of commuting that is within a 2x drive duration - explain what this means

Percentage Breakdown of Different Commuting Modes

Here you will find a breakdown of your workforce according to viable alternative modes available to them. an individual can be included within multiple modes if they have multiple viable options. This is where you can see potential CO2e savings against driving alone emissions. In the example above, Bus seems to have the greatest opportunity for modal shift and emission reduction.

Commuter travel distance & emissions modelling

This chart shows the number of employees on the left Y axis and tCO2e on the right Y axis, and the commute distance in miles on the X axis.

On the chart the turquoise vertical bars represent the number of employees that live this specific distance away from the workplace, whilst the pink shaded area shows the amount of emissions in tCO2e emitted by employees if they were to drive to work on their own.

Public Transport

When trying to encourage people to use public transport it is important to consider how long their journey would take.

The duration bar chart shows the journey times of the quickest public transport journeys for the relevant number of employees, which are broken down into 5 minute intervals. This view helps to understand the workforce profile of different journey lengths to your office location.

The driving factor bar chart displays the number / percentage of employees who have a public transport option available to them within the specified driving factor. This view compares public transport journeys to the time it takes them to drive into work. If they have a 20 minute drive, then a 2x driving factor would include a door-to-door public transport journey of 40 minutes.

Sustainable Travel Modes

This section breaks down the employees with an alternative sustainable mode to see where potential change can happen. Some employees will have more than one sustainable travel mode available to them and so they will be counted within each mode that is an option for them.

Active Travel

This chart shows the overall number and percentage of employees who have a walking or cycling option using existing infrastructure.

It also shows the average amount of calories burned by your employees by either walking or cycling using the distances and actual data from this report. Wellbeing-based promotion of active travel can be a powerful lever. The information in this section can be used for such promotion.

Finally it shows the percentage of employees fulfilling NHS recommended exercise per day.

Car Share Potential

If you have, or are looking to launch a Liftshare scheme via Mobilityways then it is recommended to complete a CommuteIQ report first. It provides a breakdown of useful information you can use to promote to your workforce. It will also give you a good sense of expected uptake when paired with a travel survey. In this example, 54% (20) of the workforce have at least one car share option, with 9 of those employees having between 4-9 potential matches.

Active travel alternatives

We understand that life can be unpredictable, especially the weather! So it is important that your active commuters have sustainable alternatives available to them, allowing them to continue with a sustainable commute year-round.

This chart shows the number and percentage of employees who have a viable sustainable travel option alternative if they have a walk or cycling option.

Potential average annual emissions reduction

This table conveys the environmental impact your organisation could have, through an annual reduction in tCO2e.

It shows the potential amount of tCO2e saved for walk, cycle and car share modes. It also shows the breakdown of tCO2e as tCO2e, tCH4 and tN2O. You can also adjust the percentage of employees you want to model.
